In todays market, there are many options of what to infill your artificial turf with. Each of these infills serve a specific purpose. Therefor, our goal is to help you understand the difference between them and pick the best option for you. Let’s dive in to our infill…

Why Infill Is Needed?

Let’s start from the beginning. What is the purpose/benefit of infill and why do we chose to sell a product that needs infill.

Silica Sand

Silica sand consists of small, angular sand granules made of a derivative of quartz that has been worn by the elements. Therefor, it is typically inexpensive and works well in low-traffic areas. It is easy to find and install this type of infill, making it popular for areas that don’t take a beating, like a patio or a balcony, or unused areas of grass. The infill also provides the same durability as crumb rubber, making it a great solution for playgrounds and pet areas.

Rubber

Artificial sports fields is where you will find our rubber used to provide the right amount of cushioning and bounce. Sports fields infilled with sand the surface would be harder and could cause injury to athletes. Rubber is rarely used in residential application any more and can also provide enough weight to keep the artificial turf from moving with play. And soft enough to provide give and cushion to the athletes.

Zeofill

ZeoFill is highly recommended for pet turf, playgrounds, and sports surfaces due to it’s ability to reduce the surface temperatures by up to 20 degrees as well as reduce odor. Therefor it is used in addition to an antii-microbial sand or a silica sand  to provide the best protection against pet orders.  Zeofill is made out of a 100% natural resource from the earth. It is a negatively charged honey-combed molecular structure which absorbs the urine like a magnet and prevents the ammonia from forming a gas which is the main cause of smell. To release the liquid the infill has held for a period of time, hose water and rain fall flush out liquid past the gravel sub base. Therefor leaving little to no odor behind. For more scientific details visit Zeofill website.

Antimicrobial Infill

Got a dog? Anti-microbial sand (aka Durafill) is similar to silica sand, in that it comes from quartz. The main difference is that it is round-shaped. This infill does not trap heat, and it does not absorb liquids making it easier for them to drain through the turf. We recommend using this application rather than regular sand for pet applications with the addition of Zeofill.
